This technical approach focuses on reducing harshness in dark-colored reactive printed fabrics while maintaining strong shade depth and fastness. The solution involves optimizing the print paste formulation by reducing urea levels and optionally adding an enzymatic degumming step using Starcozyme DP to remove gum residues. Additionally, introducing a proper soaping process with StarcoSoap LF or Starco Soaping Agent 909 improves washing efficiency and removes unfixed dyes. These improvements result in softer fabric handle, better washing fastness, and reduced chances of dye bleeding. Overall, the process enhances fabric quality while minimizing the need for reprocessing.
Current Recipe
Sodium Alginate (high viscosity) :
12.5 g/kg
Synthetic Thickener :
27.5 g/kg
Urea :
200 g/kg
Resist Salt :
12.5 g/kg
Sodium Bicarbonate :
37.5 g/kg
Hexametaphosphate :
3 g/kg
Antifoam :
5 g/kg
Ohyoung Black DN :
80 g/kg
Suggested Optimizations
- Run trials at 150 g/kg and 175 g/kg urea.
- Assess: Print depth, handle, washing-off ease.
- Excess urea may leave residues, contributing to harsh feel.
After Treatment, Assess
- Fabric Handle: Hand feel test (internal panel)
- Color Fastness: ISO 105-C06 (washing fastness),
- target rating 4+
- Surface pH: 6.0‒7.5
- Absence of dye bleed in final rinse
